My background is in telecoms. Before coming to France in 1991, I had a diverse and fascinating career in BT in the UK. Finally getting involved in BT's standards-making activities opened up the opportunity of joining the (then) newly-created European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) in the Sophia Antipolis science park, between Nice and Cannes.
Since then I've been employed by ETSI for all but four years - during those four years I was a "Profession Libérale" with just two major clients, one of which was... ETSI. (It's a long story and I won't bore you with it) I've been back on the ETSI payroll since 1999 and I'm now easing my way towards an eventual retirement.
Several years ago I helped out with some local IEE evenings (informal technical talks by various folk either working in or visiting this area), but these fizzled out when the organiser moved back to the UK. PACA is a very large region of course, so getting folk together is not easy, but we can continue to give it a try from time to time.
I would ask any members planning to visit this region, and who would be willing to give a presentation on a subject close to their hearts, to contact me so that we can discuss the possibility of arranging a local event.
