About this event
‘'It's Not the People Who Vote that Count; It's the People Who Count the Votes'
Milton Keynes based DRS Data Services Limited carried out the first electronic vote counting in British elections in 2000. Steve Beats, DRS Head of R&D, will demonstrate the technology behind "e-counting" and relate it to traditional manual counting.
As well as ordinary first past the post voting, its used in the alternative vote method (first and second preference for mayoral elections) and combined with intelligent character recognition (ICR) was introduced in Britain’s first single transferrable vote elections for Scottish Local Authorities in 2007. You’ll also get to cast a vote and see how electronic counting helps to ensure it really is the people who vote that count.
