Welcome to the 2011/2012 session of activities which I and the IET Northern Ireland Committee hope you will find interesting and informative. I take over the role of Chair from Mr David McCartney whom I would like to thank for his invaluable contribution to the IET. He delivered an extremely interesting and varied programme of events in the 2010/2011 calendar. Highlights included the Prestige Lecture Series with presentations by Mr Roger Mosey, BBC Director of London 2012 and Dr Natasa Milic-Frayling, Director Microsoft Research Cambridge, to name a few.
Following on from the success of our programme of events in 2010/2011, the committee continue to focus on delivering high quality, professional and stimulating events for our members. We also continue to recognise the excellent work undertaken by our Business Partners in Northern Ireland and we seek to continue to develop these relationships to the mutual benefit of the businesses, their staff, the IET and profession as a whole.
The Prestige Lecture Series will take place again in 2011/2012 to enable our local members to keep up to date with cutting edge developments in all sectors. We are extremely excited by the spectrum of topics, and the reputation and diversity of the speakers that have kindly agreed to give presentations as part of the Prestige Lecture Series.
Of course our Flagship Event – the IET NI Annual Dinner – will again take place in March 2012 in the Culloden Hotel. With over 15 companies providing corporate sponsorship and 196 people attending in 2011, this formal dinner continues to go from strength to strength and is one of the most prestigious professional networking opportunities for companies and individuals alike. If you have not previously been to the formal, let 2012 be the first of many years of attendance!
Finally, please do regularly visit our website for the latest information on the programme of events and contact details of the committee.
I look forward to seeing you at the events outlined in 2011/2012.
Dr Karen Rafferty
On behalf of the IET NI Committee
